Well honestly, Vio at 5 years old have never been to a cinema before, though he was really interested to. And Cait at 2.5 years old, obviously haven't been to one either. We were always telling Vio that we will go to cinema when Cait is a bit older.
However, we are one of the lucky ones who has plenty of Cathay @ JEM vouchers to spend (all because of our "hardwork" of queueing up at JEM early in the mornings to get the vouchers!).
So, we decided to give it a try. The only available movie that's suitable for kids was Frozen.
The two kids are SO excited that they're going to cinema to watch movies. And we bought pop corn too, which is one of their favorite treat (and mine too, for that matter).
Before we went it, I have told them multiple (oh ok, maybe zillion times) that inside the cinema is very dark, loud, and cold. Just to pre-empt then so that they're not surprised to see the real thing.
Going inside, they took the new surroundings very well, and were very engrossed eating popcorn and enjoying the movie. Cait even hugged the popcorn box tightly and kept on putting popcorn inside her mouth.
... That was until there was 1 part where a (bit) scary monster comes out. I have told her multiple (ok, zillion times again) that it's all only movie, it's not real, so there's nothing she should be afraid of. Still, she still look a little bit afraid but she was coping well.
.... And then comes the sad part... which is when some of the characters were sad... Cait kept asking "Why so sad, mommy? Cait also very sad..." then she started tearing up.. Ah yes, maybe I need to mention that she's a very emotional girl. When she sees the character was sad, she was also feeling sad..
And going out of the cinema (when the movie ended), Cait suddenly cried loudly. As in really LOUD. She was saying that she wanted "five little monkeys foam art" (which really has no relation to the movie), and she wanna watch another movie, and that the monster was scary. What we think is that she's just too tired from watching the movie.
So what's our take for bringing kids to cinema? 2.5 years old might be too early, but 5 years old? Definitely can ;)
